Women's Economic Contributions in the Art Supply Chain: Addressing Undervaluation and Proposing Equitable Recognition and Compensation

The study discusses the economic value of women in the art supply chain, considering roles that tend to be undervalued and how their contributions might be recognized and rewarded. Women work in all steps of the distribution chain for art production, including in manufacturing raw materials, creation, distribution, and retail, but their work is sometimes underpaid or unrecognized due to gender biases, informal working conditions, and systemic inability to attribute value in the art economy. This paper seeks to examine these disparities, assess their economic and social implications, and introduce viable frameworks to ensure satisfactory pay and coverage.
